We have been answering questions using surveys and recording our data using tally charts and frequency diagrams.  We have then drawn our own charts using 2simple software.  We have also drawn graphs on paper.  Here are some of our findings:

The least popular fish in 3W is Gold fish, Glow in the dark, Sardine, Black neon tetra and Guppy.

Making a graph?

We have been making graphs from our surveys this week.  We entered the data from our tally charts and frequency diagrams into 2simple software.  The problem came when we tried to print them out.  The teacher menus were difficult for us to use...so we improvised and learnt how to use the print screen button!

Pressing control-shift-PrtScrn takes a picture (a screenshot)  of the screen at that moment.  You can then paste it into another document.  We pasted into Word.

Here's an online site which allows you to make your own graphs.

Try to make a graph of something at home...maybe the ages of your family, the sizes of your shoes, the number of power points in each room.

Data gathering

We are asking and answering questions in our maths lessons.

Which day of the week is your favourite?
What is your prediction?
Why do you think that?

We found out the most popular day in 3W.

We used a tally to collect the information. We used a class register to make sure the data was complete. We turned the tally into a frequency diagram by adding it up.

Measuring carefully and solving problems

We were finding out how many hand heights are the same as our body height.
Some of us used this information to predict how tall a giant was by using a hand print.

Lei's shadow data

Lei checked the length of a shadow each hour today. Here is her data:

 

9am: 39cm

10am: 10cm

11am: 5cm

12pm: 3cm

1pm: 34cm

2pm: 42cm

3pm: 54cm

 

Why was her shadow the shortest at 12pm?

What length do you think the shadow was at 8am?

If you want the shadow to grow longer, do you have to make light source closer to or further away from the object?
