DT Photo frames

We will be making picture frames as part of our DT curriculum.  We will be designing after looking at a selection of frames.  Children will need to bring in a photo.  Here is a copy of the message which children have written into their Red Contact Books.

Remember to bring a photo into school. It should be the one you want to put into your frame.

If possible they should also try to bring in a small photo frame which you have at home, but make sure it is not too valuable or delicate.  (Well done to Annabel for bringing in the first one!)

So why is reading important?

William Kamkwamba built a windmill near his home in Malawi.  See the video here.

He found out by getting a book out from his library.

If he couldn't read, he wouldn't have been able to do that.

Happy reading.

Smoothie taste-off!

We had our smoothie tasting today!

Each group made their favourite smoothie from last week.  This time we made it with 5 x the amount.

We then took them to the classroom and gave each a score.

We did not know which smoothie was made by which group.

Well done to Richie Cane Tinn Toby for winning the vote with an average score (from 1-10) of 7.18 points.

Close behind were Melyssa Rita Punn Bua Melanie with 7.09 points.

Well done to all the smoothie makers for testing, tasting and scoring.

Quote of the day goes to Tom:"  I gave it a 5 because I didn't like the aftertaste!"  What fabulous vocabulary...maybe he is a food taster of the future!

DT Pneumatics

This week we have made some moving monsters in pneumatics. We have used syringes to move the monsters. All of 3w saw some videos from previous Year 3 children so that we could get an idea of making a video and taking a photo. We also decorated it and made the moving parts interesting.

We all had a lot of FUN making the moving monsters!!!!!

Have a look at this link for more information.

Smoothie design

So far we have:
  1. Tasted fruit,
  2. Tasted juices
  3. Thought of words to describe appearance, smell and taste
Now we are mixing it up!
In groups today, we need to make and test small trial quantities of smoothies.
At the end of the blending today you will choose your favourite trial.
Next week you will make larger quantities of that one.
Everyone in the class will then taste a little of all of the trial smoothies.
Our class winner will go through to the Y3 FINAL!
The winner from the final will be supreme Y3 Champion Smoothie, 2009!!!

Smoothies - the language of taste and smell.

Designing the tastiest, healthiest smoothie is our current DT challenge.

We set off on our thirst quenching quest today with a tantalising taste test.

After listing words for appearance, taste and smell, we tried eight different drinks.

On Wednesday next week, we will vote for our favourite drink and for the drink which we think is the most healthy.

THE LATEST: 3W's favourite drink was Coke Zero! However, none of the class thought it was the healthiest drink. We decided that healthy foods and drinks:
  • Help us to grow,
  • Keep us healthy

400 Marble Reward, T ball competition, DT (sawing) and Assembly Practice!

It's been a busy day in 3W.

In the Tball competition, both teams did really well. The girls team came first and the boys team narrowly missed victory by 2 points, coming 2nd in the final. Well done to all players - great team spirit.
Some people were writing their plan while other people made their picture frames, using sawing and sticking. No-one was injured!

We then went straight to the hall for a practice of our Herculean assembly.

In our 400 marble reward,we played wink murder, Splat! and musical statues. We then decided what to play in small groups. People were playing UNO, speed stacks, Connect 4 and Glue.

I need a weekend for some rest!
