Another gallery of memories

Remember Sports Day?

These photos will bring back some memories. Thanks again to Chai Ling.

Gardening at school

We have the first set of fabulous pictures here - all about our Y3 garden - "Let's do some Gardening"

Again, a HUGE
THANKYOU to Chai Ling for her hard work, music choices and technical wizardry!

Here are some great slides of our gardening. The garden was the idea of Mr Parkin and was paid for by the PTG. Thanks to them we had great fun watching plants grow, as part of our science topic...it was harder than I thought it would be! Do you remember doing your watering duty as part of our class jobs?

If you have any ideas about how we could be better gardeners, please leave a comment.

DT Pneumatics

This week we have made some moving monsters in pneumatics. We have used syringes to move the monsters. All of 3w saw some videos from previous Year 3 children so that we could get an idea of making a video and taking a photo. We also decorated it and made the moving parts interesting.

We all had a lot of FUN making the moving monsters!!!!!

Have a look at this link for more information.

Another Egyptian powerpoint...by Luc...with timed slide transitions!

Have a good look at this ppt!

Hopefully you can just let the slides change on their own as Luc put in some timed transitions and some animated text.

Let him know what you think by leaving a comment.

Science review

We tried to summarise the year's science in 1 lesson.

How do you think we got on?

The map is a bit crowded, but hopefully you can read the writing.

We thought we were being reflective, communicative, knowledgeable, thinkers who were inquirers and good communicators.

Leap Year ...a fact you should know and another really wierd one!

You might have thought that the year 2100 is going to be a leap year,
but it isn't! Every 4 years there is a leap year and 2096 is a leap year
but surprisingly the year 2100 doesn't follow the pattern!
We checked on the Internet and two sites said that 2100 isn't a leap year!
A website said that every year divisible by 100 isn't a leap year but a year
divisible by 400 is a leap year and if a year is divisible by 400 and 100
is a leap year
!
See this and this for more information.

Transition...getting ready for next year

Change is part of life. You can be sure that something is always changing about your life. If you look carefully, everything changes!

On Monday the Year 2 children will come to Year 3 and the current Year 3 children will go to Year 4.

Some people are better at getting used to change and it affects us all in different ways.

To find out about my new class I am going to use this slideshow.

Good luck with your transition and try to talk to a friend, parent or teacher if you are worried.

Athena's Egypt powerpoint

What did the Ancient Egyptians eat?
What were the names of the gods?

Read and find out!
The Ancient Egyptians

I'm sure Athena would love to get some comments.

We stopped our topic on rocks and soils in Term 1...but...

...here's a great animation activity which shows how rocks are shaped by the weather and other forces.

It's quite amazing how quickly some erosion happens and also how long it takes for other forms of erosion.

Have a go.

Footballicious, Swimming Mad and Violintastic!

Well we knew it was going to be a busy week, but what a result!

3W persevered and communicated superbly in the girls, boys and mixed football tournaments today and came out with an overall win. A fabulous team effort! It was a great tournament with much hard work and preparation by the PE staff.

I'm so pleased that you have this photographic record of the event, which was speedily and expertly put together, by Chai Ling.... again...many thanks!

Another well done goes to Kristine, for her recently won award for Most Valuable Swimmer.

Athena also deserves a big shout, with her Grade 1 violin exam today...can't wait to hear how she got on.

Have a great weekend!

Egyptian day

Today is Egyptian Day so we all wore fabulous Egyptian clothes. All of 3W wants to say thank you to the people who made the costumes possible.
When we went to see different classes, we experienced different activities: minimummymaking (see here for a great new Mummy website), Egyptian Dance and Drama and Hieroglyphics writing.
We watched the Shadow Play of mummification which was performed by the teachers.
We are now waiting ravenously for our turn to eat food from the banquet.
We also did a parade. Some people walked and danced just like real Ancient Egyptian dancers.

We made 300 marbles today and will be celebrating with a 40 minute session in the computer suite on Tuesday, from 11:30 until 12:10.

It's a busy week this week:

Smoothie design

So far we have:
  1. Tasted fruit,
  2. Tasted juices
  3. Thought of words to describe appearance, smell and taste
Now we are mixing it up!
In groups today, we need to make and test small trial quantities of smoothies.
At the end of the blending today you will choose your favourite trial.
Next week you will make larger quantities of that one.
Everyone in the class will then taste a little of all of the trial smoothies.
Our class winner will go through to the Y3 FINAL!
The winner from the final will be supreme Y3 Champion Smoothie, 2009!!!
