Want to build a pyramid?

Have a look at this BBC game.
I tried it and so far have only got as far as navigating my boat full of sandstone along the Nile. I took 55 days!

See if you can do better and let me know.

Look here for the game.

Past, present future?

Time games

I was quite shocked when I asked about the months of the year and many 3W children didn't know!!!
On 15th June I'm going to set a challenge which uses time facts including...
  • how many seconds are there in a minute
  • how many minutes there are in an hour
  • how many hours there are in a day
  • how many days there are in a week
  • how many days there are in a year
  • how many days there are in EACH month (remember the knuckle trick?)
  • how many days there are in a leap year

So if you don't know them, get learning.

Like dressing up in different clothes...or painting and racing cars?

The more questions you answer correctly, the more clothes and accessories you earn!
Try it!

Like painting cars then racing them? Try it!

Both these games can be used to practice your multiplication facts.

Project Homework - Pharaoh Facts and Gymnastic success.

Homework – Learning Logs in Term 3

What an amazing set of Project homeworks (Learning Logs)!

I am so impressed with the effort which has obviously been put into these. Please let me know a parents' view on these pieces of homework or a view from a student.

The third project this term is Humanities based, exploring the events in a Pharaoh's life. Further details have been sent home with the children this afternoon.

This homework project is due on or before Friday 12th June.

It remains incredibly important that the children continue reading everyday and the activities on Link and Learn can still be used to reinforce their number skills etc.

Spellings will still be given each week (not this week because of NCT testing) followed by a test the following week (so our next spelling test will be on Thursday 4th June).

Gymnastic Success

Well done to Lei for competing in her first Gymnastic competition this weekend. Also big congratulations go to Kristine for her medal winning performances. We are proud of your hard work and persistence.

Athena's illuminating light and shadow facts

Follow this link to see Athena's light and shadow facts.

There are some great safety tips here. This powerpoint was edited by Tushar.

I tried to show it in the same way as Tushar's and Luc's powerpoint, using scribd, but there was a technical problem. Oh well.

Equivalent fractions and decimals

We all know that 0.5 = 1/2,
hopefully know that 0.25 = 1/4,
but how much more do you know?

Play some fraction games to improve your knowledge.

Unfortunately the games are quite small on this free version.

To play fraction painter 1 click here. This helps with halves and quarters.

3D shape

We reviewed what we know about 3D shapes today...faces, corners and edges...for the common shapes, including the cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and pyramids.
Have a look at the great polydron shapes we made.
Can you spot the triangular prism, the tetrahedron (triangle base pyramid), the dodecahedron (twelve pentagonal sides) and even the truncated octahedron (what a mouthful that shape is)? This shape has two different kinds of faces:square and hexagonal.

Smoothies - the language of taste and smell.

Designing the tastiest, healthiest smoothie is our current DT challenge.

We set off on our thirst quenching quest today with a tantalising taste test.

After listing words for appearance, taste and smell, we tried eight different drinks.

On Wednesday next week, we will vote for our favourite drink and for the drink which we think is the most healthy.

THE LATEST: 3W's favourite drink was Coke Zero! However, none of the class thought it was the healthiest drink. We decided that healthy foods and drinks:
  • Help us to grow,
  • Keep us healthy

Kidnapped!

Two 3w guided reading (GR) groups have been reading the challenging Robert Louis Stevenson book, Kidnapped. This story was written in 1886 and is set in Scotland. We read the version which was adapted by Margaret McAllister.

It has old fashioned Scottish words and is a very challenging book for 7 and 8 year olds.

Have a look outside the classroom at their story pathway.

A great piece of collaboration.
